Print Quake Predicted in Las Cruces -- November 1st, 2019

The Desert Triangle Print Carpeta is coming to the Las Cruces Museum of Art -- November 1, 2019 - January 4, 2020.

PRESS RELEASE

Desert Triangle: Print Carpeta
And Impress 2 Express
opens at Las Cruces Museum of Art

Join us Friday, November 1, 2019, through Saturday, January 4, 2020 for Desert Triangle: Print Carpeta, an exhibit that features artists from Tucson, Albuquerque, and El Paso. Sixteen Las Cruces-based artists will be featured as an extension of Desert Triangle: Print Carpeta in an exhibit addition titled Impress 2 Express.

Desert Triangle: Print Carpeta is a southwestern print project initiated by artist and Karrl (Karl Whitaker) who commissioned his colleagues to create an exhibit featuring printmakers from the “desert triangle” (Tucson, Albuquerque, and the El Paso region). Impress 2 Express highlights local printmakers from Las Cruces.

Desert Triangle: Print Carpeta and Impress 2 Express showcase colorful and thought-provoking images that are exemplary of the Chicano, Hispanic, and indigenous art and culture of the area.

Opening night, November 1, 2019 from 5pm to 7pm will feature a hands-on demonstration of relief printmaking techniques by Las Cruces artist and educator Chris Bardey. This mini-workshop will allow anyone age 11 or older to make an original hand-pulled print to take home.

The museum is located at 501 N. Main Street (RoadRUNNER Transit bus route 1, stop 36) and is open Tuesday through Friday from 10am to 4:30pm, and Saturday from 9am to 4:30pm. For additional information, visit the website at: museums.las-cruces.org or call (575) 541-2137.

We had a meeting about this on July 15th, when I took the pictures below:

We are going to include additional prints from a lot of Las Cruces printmakers, and thus toured some of the studios in Las Cruces.

UPDATE:

We delivered the last Desert Triangle print to Las Cruces on October 9th :

We are PREPARING FOR PRINT DEMOS during the Las Cruces exhibition, and had an image laser cut at Cruces Creatives, to make relief prints.  This "Horned Toad Prints" image came from Meño Miranda of Guadalajara, where they made prints from the original hand-cut linoleum on the streets of Guadalajara, using a tortilla press.

AMBOS LADOS INTERNATIONAL PRINT EXCHANGE

We had a great opening in Silver City, New Mexico, for another print exhibit -- the Ambos Lados International Print Exchange -- on October 11th, 2019, kicking off the 4th Annual Southwest Print Fiesta.  This is a great lead up to the exhibit at the Las Cruces Museum of Art on November 1st.  A lot of the Desert Triangle printmakers also participated in Ambos Lados (a later print project, started in 2018).
