Printmakers Update 2019 -- Part 3

This is the third look at what some of the Desert Triangle printmakers have done recently.

TANYA RICH

Tanya Rich went down to Habana, Cuba with Krrrl to create a print with Octavio Irving in 2018, for the Ambos Lados International Print Exchange.

MANUEL GUERRA

Manuel Guerra of Horned Toad Prints, teamed up with Taller Grafica Libre in Zaachila, Oaxaca, to produce the Ambos Lados International Print Exchange.  Ultimately they received 158 print editions: 80 from the US, 72 from Mexico, two from Cuba, two from Australia, one from Canada and one from Ireland.

The Ambos Lados International Print Exchange's debut exhibition was during the big SGCI 2019 print conference of Dallas/North Texas.  Ambos Lados showed at the University of Texas at Arlington.

Krrrl flew down to Oaxaca in March 2019, to deliver the last of the print packages to the artists in Oaxaca.

ZEKE PEÑA

I saw Zeke Peña's drawings plastered all over the city of Oaxaca in March, as they were presenting the book he illustrated -- Photographic: The Life of Graciela Iturbide -- at the Biblioteca Henestrosa on April 6, 2019 (although Zeke was not there).

Zeke Peña is very active, so we can only touch on some of the other projects he has been working on.

Zeke is also showing in the "Qué Chola"exhibition
at National Hispanic Cultural Center in Albuquerque,
along with Nanibah Chacon

MARTIN QUINTANILLA

Martin Quintanilla has opened his print gallery in Patzcuaro, Michoacan -- Microgallery Manibula -- and apparently oscillates between Mexico and Tucson these days.

RUBEN URREA MORENO

Ruben Urrea Moreno's Desert Triangle print was discovered hanging at the Tucson Museum of Art in 2018.  Ruben is painting all the time, and we get to see a few of the things he creates on his Instagram.

MICHAEL CONTRERAS

Michael Contreras is still running the Contreras Gallery in Tucson, in the 6th and 6th art district next to downtown.

MYKL WELLS

Mykl Wells created a huge cardboard sculpture -- Astronave -- for the 2016 Cartasia Lucca Biennale in Italy.

JOE MARSHALL

Joe Marshall continues to crank out the relief prints, and actively shows at Tiny Town Gallery on 4th Avenue in Tucson.

RUDY FLORES

Rudy Flores' print prominently represented the Desert Triangle at the University of Arizona Art Museum in 2017.

ROGO

We are keeping current with Rogo through his Instagram.

GONZALO ESPINOSA

Gonzalo Espinosa has moved to Puerto Vallarta, and is showing in many galleries there.
